In preparation for the University’s 50th anniversary in 2015, Kent has established 100 doctoral scholarships to be awarded annually. Known as Kent’s 50th Anniversary Scholars, successful candidates will demonstrate academic excellence and outstanding research potential.
The School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science also has several postgraduate studentships funded by EPSRC available for a September 2013 start.
The School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science now invites applications
from excellent candidates who wish to study for a PhD in any of the research areas covered by the School: Actuarial Science; Pure, Applied and Financial Mathematics; and Statistics.
The School offers a lively research culture with a thriving group of around 250 taught postgraduates students and almost 100 postgraduate students, postdoctoral researchers and academic staff. Kent is among the best research-intensive universities in the UK. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), the university was ranked 24th out of 159 institutions for its world-leading research, with six of our subject areas (including statistics) in the top ten nationwide. The scholarships will offered at the standard UK Research Councils' rate (currently £13,590) and will cover the tuition fees at the Home/EU rate for a period of 3.5 years.
Entry Requirements
All candidates must have an excellent academic track record in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science or Financial Mathematics and hold a good Honours degree in a relevant subject or equivalent.
