PhD Studentship

Consumer Engagement through Additive Manufacture

De Montfort University -School of Design, Faculty of Art, Design and Humanities, De Montfort University, Leicester

Starting October 2013
A PhD research studentship covering stipend and tuition fee costs is offered within the School of Design working with an internationally recognised research team that has pioneered computational design and direct manufacture in high value consumer goods. The bursary student will be expected to be working in residence in the School of Design. The supervisory team will be led by Dr Lionel T Dean (http://www.dmu.ac.uk/about-dmu/academic-staff/art-design-humanities/lionel-dean/lionel-dean.aspx).
Research activity within The School of Design is informed by both theory and practice. We welcome applications and enquiries from well qualified candidates wishing to pursue projects which align with our specialist research area: the creative use of digital design and manufacturing technologies.  We are particularly interested in projects which will build on existing computational design and mass individualisation studies; exploring the user-engagement and product-consumer emotional attachment these models can engender.

Extensive knowledge of digital design and direct manufacturing technologies;
Demonstrable parametric CAD skills;
Demonstrable experience of experimental work in the Art and Design field;
