PhD Studentship

De Montfort University -3D Digital Interpretation with English Heritage

Faculty of Art, Design & Humanities, De Montfort University, Leicester
Starting October 2013
Based in the Digital Building Heritage Group the successful applicant for this fully funded PhD studentship will work with English Heritage, Britain’s leading public sector heritage organisation to explore novel applications for 3D graphics, display and interaction technologies in the interpretation and understanding of nationally important historic properties. 3D digital technologies are a potential future means of overcoming existing physical and logistical difficulties associated with promoting and explaining complex historic sites and buildings to a more demanding, technically literate and device enabled public. However there remain significant barriers to their uptake for instance in the areas of active on-site digital curation and augmented reality on mobile platforms. With a strong background in 3D graphics programming and an interest in history the successful applicant will conceptualise, develop and test potential imaging and 3D digital interpretation solutions for real-world use.
