Job Purpose
Assessment of interventions and health technologies is one of the key areas of activity within the Health Economics and Health Technology Assessment (HEHTA) research group. This includes undertaking evidence synthesis, economic and decision modelling and economic analyses of clinical trial data. The purpose of this post is to conduct, present and publish research in the disciplines of health economics and health technology assessment. In particular, the candidate will primarily contribute to a decision model to assess the long term impacts associated with a short term physical activity intervention in men with the aim of assessing the likely cost, effects and cost-effectiveness of the intervention.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. To undertake health economic evaluation, using appropriate methodologies, to determine the cost-effectiveness of interventions and health technologies of interest.
2. To advise research collaborators and colleagues on the important economic data required for an economic analysis and to recommend methods for capturing such data.
3. To develop decision models, based on available evidence, so as to assess long term outcomes for cost-effectiveness analyses and, where appropriate, inform the design of future studies.
4. To participate in the writing up research findings appropriately for publication, in order to establish and maintain an expert reputation and track record of publications in field/discipline.
5. To take responsibility for and present findings to collaborators at steering committee meetings and to peers at appropriate national and international meetings.
6. To support the team’s existing CPD activities where appropriate.
7. To seek to attract external funding from research councils, charitable foundations, government departments and other organisations where appropriate. 
8. To collaborate with other staff in the University to support the wider use of health technology assessment methods, as appropriate.
9. To supervise postgraduate research projects where the opportunity arises.
10. To support colleagues and contribute to the supervising of less experienced members of the research team.
11.To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, Glasgow 2020 – A Global Vision
For appointment at grade 7: Taking a leadership role in all of the above

12. The postholder would be expected to demonstrate a degree of leadership in determining the direction of the project including:
a. To take a lead in the drafting of applications for funding, as requested by the PI
b. To take the lead on writing papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals and deciding on appropriate journals with the PI.
c. To develop and maintain external collaborations with support from PI.

Standard Terms & Conditions

Salary will be on the University’s Research and Teaching Grade 6, £26,264 - £29,541 per annum. Or Grade 7 £32,267 - £36,298
This post has funding available for 1 year.

New entrants to the University will be required to serve a probationary period of 6 months.

The successful applicant will be eligible to join the Universities' Superannuation Scheme. Further information regarding the scheme is available from the Superannuation Officer, who is also prepared to advise on questions relating to the transfer of Superannuation benefits.

All research and related activities, including grants, donations, clinical trials, contract research, consultancy and commercialisation are required to be managed through the University’s relevant processes (e.g. contractual and financial), in accordance with the University Court’s policies.
