Applications are invited for a PhD position aimed at the discovery and development of novel prebiotics through knowledge obtained from functional genomics of bifidobacteria.
The PhD position is funded for four years by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) through the FIRM/RSF/CoFoRD 2011 Research Call under the National Development Plan 2007-2013. The successful candidate will hold a BSc and/or MSc in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Organic chemistry, Molecular Biology and/or Bioinformatics or a related discipline, and will become part of a dynamic and well-funded research group based in the Alimentary Pharmabiotic Centre (http://www.ucc.ie/research/apc/content/). Candidates should be self-motivated, while previous laboratory experience in microbiology/molecular biology/biochemistry is highly desirable.
