Applications are invited for a three-year PhD studentship funded by the Beijing Institute for Aerospace Materials. You should have a strong interest in working in an interdisciplinary environment, have a background in a relevant discipline (Material Science, Engineering, or Physics) and have an enquiring and rigorous approach to your work.
The project is to address (i) the evolution of the g¢ microstructure during heat treatment, (ii) the mechanical properties of the individual isolated phases by nanoindentation, (iii) measurement of the dislocation fault energies in different g¢ by high resolution TEM and (iv) development of creep and coarsening models using the data developed.
You will have an upper second or higher first degree or equivalent in materials or related discipline. An interest in materials behaviour, diffusion, and characterisation techniques applied to superalloys, together with experience in computing (eg Fortran, Pascal, Matlab or similar), are essential.
