Research Associate Optical Microresonator based Ultrasound Sensing University College London -UCL Medical Physics and Bioengineering Full Time

The appointment will be on UCL Grade . The salary range will be Grade 7 £32,375 - £39,132 per annum; Grade 8 £40,216 - £47,441 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position to work on the development of optical microresonator sensor arrays for biomedical photoacoustic and ultrasound imaging applications.

The aim of the project will be to design and fabricate high Q polymer optical microresonators for use as ultrasensitive ultrasound detectors for medical and biological imaging applications. The project will involve optical microresonator design, the use of polymer microfabrication techniques and experimental optical and acoustic characterisation studies. This project offers an opportunity to undertake research in applied optics and acoustics within an internationally leading research group and contribute to the development of new biomedical imaging techniques.

This post is funded by the EPSRC for 3 years in the first instance.
Candidates to be considered for a grade 8 if they have significant experience within the field.

A postdoctoral optical physicist or engineer with a track record of research achievement (or the potential to acquire one) is sought. A strong applied optics background is required with experience of optical design, free-space and fibre optics and preferably optical microfabrication techniques. Knowledge of some or all of the following would also be advantageous: numerical modeling of optical resonator characteristics, thin film processing, microlens arrays and acoustic wave interactions.
