Description

Water.org seeks a Senior Manager to manage its growing portfolio in South Asia. India and Bangladesh represent our largest portfolio of program activities. We have developed our WaterCredit initiative within India and at a smaller scale in Bangladesh (with plans to grow the initiative in the next few years). Our WaterCredit initiative creates partnerships with microfinance institutions to enable people to gain improved access to water and sanitation.
This position will oversee program execution and expansion in India and Bangladesh. The person will be an integral member of the International Programs team. This position will report to the Director of International Programs based in Kansas City, MO, with expected international travel. Major responsibilities include:
I. Oversee execution of Water.org’s current WaterCredit programs and sector engagement activities in South Asia.
• Ensure current initiatives perform on-time and on-budget while meeting high standards of quality and excellence.
II. Oversee growth of our WaterCredit initiative, particularly in Bangladesh.
• Lead expansion of new partnerships with microfinance institutions in the region.
• Negotiate new agreements to expand water and sanitation access through microfinance
• Ensure that Water.org successfully monitors program and financial performance
• Provide advice to Water.org program and field staff to support capacity development of new partners and linkages with related water and sanitation stakeholders.
III. Manage Water.org team members based in the U.S., India, and ultimately Bangladesh
IV. Administer successful operation of regional offices in India and Bangladesh
• Maintain strong Indian office in conjunction with the India Country Director
• Create new working environment for Water.org in Bangladesh
• Ensure Water.org regional operations comply with all relevant national, state, and local laws, regulations, and reporting requirements
V. Assist in managing agreements with institutional donors
• Facilitate execution of program deliverables
• Review technical, financial, and narrative progress reports
• Serve as program knowledge base
• Coordinate projects/processes with financial, marketing, and development departments
VI. Ensure that information resources with the International Programs team are updated accurately on a regular basis
• Facilitate and improve provision of program data to internal and external stakeholders
• Apply and integrate new ideas and learning from experience to improve best practices
VII. Assist in grant-writing to institutional donors and support foundation requests as required
VIII. Support activities and planning related to strategic directions of the organization
• Support development of new approaches to advance WaterCredit and other financial innovations by working with microfinance institutions and via other channels
IX. Represent Water.org at public events and in written publications to advance Water.org’s mission.

Qualifications

Qualifications
Demonstrated record of outstanding academic and career achievement
• Background in project management, economics/finance (especially microfinance), development, and/or water/sanitation
• Excellent verbal and written communications, management, leadership, teamwork, networking, budgeting, and problem solving skills
• Computer literacy, including MS Office packages
• Critical thinking, creativity, good judgment, initiative, attention to detail, and professionalism
Requirements
At least 10-15 years of relevant experience with microfinance institutions, water and sanitation organizations, and/or related nonprofit organizations
• At least 5 years of experience in managing personnel located in office and at remote locations required
• Master’s or Ph.D degree required
• Experience reporting to and working with institutional donors in the international development arena, particularly with respect to water/sanitation and microfinance
• Experience in managing and expanding successful projects in India and/or Bangladesh required
• Project management experience highly desired
• Foreign language proficiency in Indian languages or Bangla preferred
• Must be willing to travel up to 30%
• US citizenship or an H1-B work visa required
